BELON TIDAK MELETUP APABILA DIBAKAR DENGAN API

(‘BALLOON DOESN’T BURST WHEN WE LIGHT UP WITH FIRE’) Bagaimana melakukannya? (‘How to do it?’) 1. Bahan – bahan yang diperlukan (‘What Do I Need?’) 2 belon, pemetik api/,mancis, lilin, air. (‘2 balloons, a lighter/matches, a candle, water.’) 2. (‘Inflate one of the balloons and tie it closed. Place 1/3 cup of water in the other balloon, and then inflate it and tie it shut.’) 3. Pastikan api mengenai belon. Perhatikan apa yang berlaku? Belon itu akan meletup. (‘Light a match and hold it under the first balloon. Allow the flame to touch the balloon. What happens? The balloon breaks, perhaps even before the flame touches it.’) 4. (‘Light another match. Hold it directly under the water in the second balloon. Allow the flame to touch the balloon. What happens with this balloon? The balloon doesn't break. You may even see a black patch of soot form on the outside of the balloon above the flame.’) Bagaimana ia berlaku? (‘How this works?’) (‘Why does the balloon with no water break in the flame? The flame heats whatever is placed in it. It heats the rubber of both balloons. The rubber of the balloon without water becomes so hot, that it becomes too weak to resist the pressure of the air inside the balloon – air expands when heated.’) (‘How does the balloon with water in it resist breaking in the flame? When water inside the balloon is placed in the flame, the water absorbs most of the heat from the flame. Then, the rubber of the balloon does not become very hot. Because the rubber does not become hot, it does not weaken, and the balloon does not break.’) (‘Water is a particularly good absorber of heat. It takes a lot of heat to change the temperature of water. It takes ten times as much heat to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1°C than it does to raise the temperature of 1 gram of iron by the same amount. This is why it takes so long to bring a teakettle of water to the boil. On the other hand, when water cools, it releases a great deal of heat.’)

Magik Sains Belon satay

BELON SATAY

(‘SATAY BALLOON’) Bagaimana melakukannya? (‘How to do it?’) 1. Bahan – bahan yang diperlukan (‘What Do I Need?’) (‘Blow up your latex balloon to a point just short of being full--so that it’s still a little squishy—and so there is a dark area at each end. Knot it off.’) 3. (‘Using a twisting motion as you go, poke the sharp into the dark, thicker latex near where you tied the balloon off. Drive the skewer all the way through to the dark latex on the far side. Still twisting, push the skewer through the far side of the balloon.’) Bagaimana ia berlaku? (‘How this works?’) Beberapa ketika, udara terbocor keluar. (‘Expect a pop? The balloon will hold its air, because the polymers in the latex haven’t been stretched to their fullest point. They can still stretch and surround the satay skewer. In fact, you can keep going. See how many skewers you can drive through the balloon. As long as you leave them inside, the balloon will hold most of its air. After a while, of course, air will leak out.’)

RAMBUT SAYA TEGAK KE ATAS

(‘My hair is straight up’) Bagaimana melakukannya? (‘How to do it?’) 1. Bahan – bahan yang diperlukan (‘What Do I Need?’) • Belon getah kecil (‘Small Rubber Balloon’) • Sukarela yang berambut panjang dan kering (‘Volunteer with dry long hair’) 2. Tiup belon dan kemudian ikatkan (‘Blow up and tie off the balloon’) 3. (‘Rub the balloon quickly on your hair back and forth a number of times.’) 4. (‘Notice what happens as you lift the balloon away from your head (make sure your hair is very dry and clean)’). Bagaimana ia berlaku? (‘How this works?’) 1. (‘When you rub the balloon on your hair, it becomes charged with static electricity.’) 2. (‘As the rubber slides over the hair, molecules of rubber form temporary bonds with molecules in your hair by sharing some of their electrons.’) 3. (‘When the balloon moves on, the bonds break, sometimes leaving an electron or two stranded on the wrong side of the bond. As the electrons spend slightly more time on the rubber side of the bond, the balloon ends up with many more electrons than it began with and leaving it with an overall negative charge! Conversely, you hair has lost some of its complement of electrons so it is now some of its positively charged protons are not cancelled out anymore and leaving the hair with an overall positive charge.’) 4. (‘As oppositely charged objects attract each other, your hair sticks to the balloon as you lift it off.’)

CUCUK SAYA – AIR TIDAK AKAN KELUAR

(‘Stab me – the water doesn’t come out’) Bagaimana melakukannya? (‘How to do it?’) 1. Bahan – bahan yang diperlukan (‘What Do I Need?’) (‘Fill a plastic bag with water and seal the top tightly.’) 3. Cucuk satu pensil ke beg plastik. (‘Stab one pencil into the plastic bag.’) 4. (‘Puncture the bag with several newly sharpened pencils, the water won’t leak out, never a drop.’) Bagaimana ia berlaku? (‘How this works?’) 1. (‘Plastic is a form of synthetic polymer. It is made through the polymerisation process, and its raw material (ethylene-a type of gas) comes from petroleum. It is tough yet cheap and widely used in everyday applications.’) 2. (‘Most plastic bags are made of polyethylene. When polyethylene is heated, its molecules shrink, so when you stab a pencil through the polyethylene bag, the friction of the pencil against the plastic heats the polyethylene molecules and causes them to shrink around the pencil. That’s one reason why no water will leak out.’)

Planet dan Orbitnya

PLANET DAN ORBITNYA DALAM SISTEM SURIA (‘PLANETS AND ITS ORBIT IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM’)

(‘Solar system consists of the Sun as the centre, 8 planets which orbiting around the Sun, natural satellites, asteroids, meteors and comets’.) (‘An orbit is the path that a planet moves through; all the planets orbit the Sun in elliptical paths - An ellipse is just a stretched out circle.') 8 buah planet mengikut susunan paling hampir dengan Matahari : (‘8 planets due to the nearest to the Sun until the furthest from the Sun’) Utarid (‘Mercury’), Zuhrah (‘Venus’), Bumi (‘Earth’), Marikh (‘Mars’), Musytari (‘Jupiter’), Zuhal (‘Saturn’), Uranus (‘Uranus’), Neptun (‘Neptune’). Ulang (BM) : Utarid, Zuhrah, Bumi, Marikh, Musytari, Zuhal, Uranus, Neptun Akronim : Unta Zahrah Balik Makan Muntah2 Zass!! Ubat Nak? Ulang (BI) : Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptun Acronim : My Very Eager Mother Just Swallowed Unique Nan *Tiga kriteria yang jelas dalam definasi planet : (‘Three distinct criteria to define a planet’) 1. (‘The closest planet to the Sun has the shortest distance of orbit and it also takes the shortest time to complete it orbit to move around the Sun'.) Jarak dan kedudukan planet dengan Matahari. (‘The distance and the position of the planets from the Sun’) Masa yang diambil oleh planet-planet untuk melengkap satu pusingan orbit mengelilingi Matahari. (‘The time taken for the all the planets to complete their orbit around the Sun – revolution’.)

Kitar Hidup Katak

Kitaran Hidup Katak – Metamorfosis katak

(‘Life Cycle of a Frog – Frog Metamorphosis') Peringkat 1 (‘Early stage’) Katak menghasilkan telur di dalam air atau kawasan berair. Telur – telur katak melekat antara satu sama lain membentuk sekelompok telur. Katak bertelur berpuluh - puluh sehingga beratus - ratus biji telur. (‘Frogs lay their eggs in water or wet places. A floating clump of eggs is called frog spawn. The large and slippery mass of eggs are too big to be eaten. This is nature's way of protecting them.’) (‘The egg is surrounded by a jellylike and slippery covering, which protects the egg. The female may or may not stay with the eggs to take care of the young after she has laid them. The egg slowly develops. But, only a few develop into adults. Ducks, fish, insects, and other water creatures eat the eggs.’) Sehingga membahagi menjadi banyak sel. (‘The single cell in the egg eventually splits into two. These two split making four cells, and so on. Eventually, there are many cells in the egg.’) Embrio (‘The Embryo’) Sel yang membahagi akan membentuk embrio. Organ dan insang terbentuk. (‘The mass of cells in the egg come to form an embryo. Organs and gills begin to form.’) Tumbuhan kecil ini dipanggil alga.(‘After its 21 day development period, the embryo leaves its jelly shell, and attaches itself to a weed in the water. This quickly becomes a tadpole. The tadpoles grow until they are big enough to break free into the water. This can take from 3 days to 3 weeks. They eat very small plants that stick to larger plants in the water. These tiny plants are called algae.’) (‘The tadpole has a long tail, and lives in the water. It is extremely vulnerable, and must rely on its camouflage to protect it. The tadpoles also face danger by being eaten by other water animals. Sometimes the pond dries up. As a result the tadpoles die.’) Peringkat 3 (‘Third stage’) Berudu mula berubah (‘The Tadpole Begins To Change’) Selepas 5 minggu, berudu mula berubah. (‘After about five weeks, the tadpole begins to change. It starts to grow hind legs, which are soon followed with forelegs. Behind their heads bulges appear where their front legs are growing. Their tails become smaller. Lungs begin to develop, preparing the frog for its life on land.’) (‘Now and then, they wiggle to the surface to breathe in air. The tail helps the tadpole to swim around and catch food. They eat plants and decaying animal matter.’) Peringkat 4 (‘Fourth stage’) Hampir menjadi katak (‘Almost There . . .’) Lama – kelamaan, berudu akan mula kelihatan seperti katak. Ia menanggalkan kulit. Mulutnya mula melebar, dan rahangnya mula hilang. Ekor mengecil, dan kaki membesar. Paru – paru semakin menjalankan fungsinya. (‘Over time, the tadpole becomes even more froglike. They have shed their skin. Its mouth widens, and it loses its horny jaws. The tail becomes much smaller, and the legs grow. The lungs are almost functioning at this point.’) (‘Eleven weeks after the egg was laid, a fully developed frog with lungs, legs, and no tail emerges from the water. This frog will live mostly on land, with occasional swims. The tiny frogs begin to eat insects and worms. Eventually, it will find a mate. The female lays the eggs, the male fertilizes them, and the whole process begins again.’) Maklumat tentang katak, sila klik di sini. Kitar Hidup Rama-Rama

Kitaran Hidup Rama - rama – Metamorfosis Rama - rama

(‘The egg is a tiny, round, oval, or cylindrical object, usually with fine ribs and other microscopic structures. The female attaches the egg to leaves, stems, or other objects, usually on or near the intended caterpillar food.’) (‘The caterpillar (or larva) is the long, worm-like stage of the butterfly or moth. It often has an interesting pattern of stripes or patches, and it may have spine-like hairs. It is the feeding and growth stage. As it grows, it sheds its skin four or more times so as to enclose its rapidly growing body.’) (‘The chrysalis (or pupa) is the transformation stage within which the caterpillar tissues are broken down and the adult insect's structures are formed. The chrysalis of most species is brown or green and blends into the background.’) [‘The adult (or imago) is colorful butterfly or moth usually seen. It is the reproductive and mobile stage for the species. The adults undergo courtship, mating, and egg-laying. The adult butterfly or moth is also the stage that migrates or colonizes new habitats.’] Maklumat tentang rama - rama, sila klik di sini. Tenaga Elektrik

FAKTA KILAT (‘LIGHTNING FACTS’)

Apa Yang Menyebabkan Kilat Terjadi (‘What Causes Lightning?’) (‘In thunderstorms, large fields of electricity are built up in the clouds when liquid and small ice particles reach freezing and collide. When these fields are large enough, a huge spark happens between them (static electricity) lessening the charge separation. A spark of lightning can happen between clouds, between the cloud and the ground or between a cloud and air.’) (‘Lightning strikes about one hundred times per second somewhere on the earth which is approximately three billion times per year.’) (‘Lightning can strike miles away from a thunderstorm. If you see dark heavy clouds in the distance find shelter. Here are some tips to keep you safe if you are outdoors during a lightning storm.’) Jauh dari benda yang cenderung disambar oleh pancaran kilat : (‘Get away from things that are prone to attract bolts of lightning’) # Objek logam termasuk pagar, paip, landasan keretapi, kenderaan dan lain – lain (‘Metal objects (including fences, pipes, rails, vehicles etc.)’) (’It's not a good idea to stand on a hill or at the highest point of an area. Seek the lowest area you can find such as a valley or a ravine. Lightning will hit the tallest point, so make sure you are not the tallest point.’) (‘If you find yourself in an open field without shelter when a lightning storm approaches, get on your knees, bend forward and put your hands on your knees. Do not lie flat on the ground. If your hair feels like it is standing on end, be very cautious because this is a warning signal that lightning might be targeting you.’) Apa perlu dilakukan jika seseorang cedera akibat sambaran kilat? (‘What do you do if there is a lightning injury?’) Teman mangsa sehingga bantuan kecemasan tiba. (‘If someone is struck by lightning, call 9-9-9. Touching the victim will not give you an electrical shock. Immediately administer CPR if there is no pulse or the victim is not breathing. Be aware that the victim may have been burned from the electrical strike especially if they were wearing any metal objects, such as watches, jewelery or buckles. Stay with the victim until trained emergency personnel has arrived.’) Jenis – jenis Kilat (‘Types of Lightning’) # Pancaran kilat yang kecil lebih kurang 30 ribu amp. (‘Small bolts of lightning average about 30 thousand amps.’) (‘Extreme lightning can be as much as 300 thousand amps or up to two million volts of electricity.’) (‘Ball lightning, which is extremely rare and is the size of a basketball that looks like a floating sphere. Ball lightning is not known to be dangerous.’)

Faktor Persaingan Haiwan

Persaingan Ialah Satu Bentuk Interaksi Antara Benda Hidup... Faktor Persaingan Haiwan 1

(‘Competition is a form of interaction among living things... (‘The critical factors needed for survival by the living things are certain needs, definitely their need more basic needs such as food, water and shelter.’) (‘COMPETITION is a form of interaction in which living things which are in the same habitat fight among themselves (compete against one another) to obtain the SAME RESOURCES that they need to survive.’) PERSAINGAN ANTARA HAIWAN (‘Competition Among Animals’) # Terdapat dua jenis persaingan antara haiwan iaitu : (‘There are two kinds of competition among animals’) a) Persaingan yang berlaku di dalam spesis yang sama (intraspesis) (‘Competition that occurs within the same species (Intraspecies)’) Kuda belang bersaing mendapatkan air (‘Zebras compete for water’) Dua kumpulan singa bersaing untuk mendapatkan wilayah yang boleh membekalkan mereka makanan dan ruang. (‘Two groups of lions compete to be in control of a territory that can provide them with food and space’) b) Persaingan yang berlaku antara spesis – spesis yang berbeza (interspesis) (‘Competition that occurs between different species (Interspecies)’) Singa dan hyena bersaing mendapatkan makanan yang sama (‘Lion and hyena compete for the same food’) # Ingat! Persaingan menjadi lebih hebat berlaku di dalam satu – satu habitat apabila berlaku PENINGKATAN BILANGAN HAIWAN SAMA ADA DARIPADA SPESIS YANG SAMA ATAU YANG BERBEZA MEMERLUKAN SUMBER ATAU KEPERLUAN HIDUP YANG SAMA DALAM JUMLAH YANG TERHAD untuk kemadirian spesis mereka. (‘Remember! In the same habitat, competition can increase / greater when the number of animals, whether in the same or different species, need the same resources or needs in limited amount for them to survive.’) (‘In a competition, the winning/stronger animals will continue to survive. The winner will gain control of the food and water resources, shelter, territory (space) and will also get a mate.’) (‘The losing/weaker animals may face restricted growth, fatality or separation/eliminated from their habitat.’) (‘Occur when animals live in the same place and eat the same food.’) # Semakin terhad sumber makanan, semakin meningkat persaingan. (‘The more limited the food resources, the more intense the competition will be.’) (‘Animals which get enough food, the number will increase and the size is bigger whereas animals which don’t get enough food the number will deacrease and the size is smaller.’) (‘Among the tigers or among the lions also compete in hunting for small animals like rabbits and deer for food – SAME SPECIES’) Kucing bersaing mendapatkan makanan yang sama iaitu ikan – SPESIS SAMA. (‘Cats compete to get the same food that is fish – SAME SPECIES’) Ikan - ikan di dalam aquarium akan bersaing untuk mendapatkan makanan – SPESIS SAMA. (‘Fishes in the fish tank compete among themselves for food – SAME SPECIES’) Burung bergaduh sesama mereka untuk makanan yang sama seperti cacing – SPESIS SAMA. (‘Birds fighting among themselves for the same food such as worms – SAME SPECIES’) Lembu dan kambing makan makanan yang sama iaitu rumput. (‘The cows and goats feed on the same food source that is grass. They have to compete when there are too many animals for the food limited. (‘Carnivores animals such as lions, wolves and tigers that live in the same area will compete to hunt other animals for food – DIFFERENT SPECIES.’)

Persaingan Haiwan

Persaingan Ialah Satu Bentuk Interaksi Antara Benda Hidup... Faktor Persaingan Haiwan 2

(‘Competition is a form of interaction among living things... Competition factors among animals’) PERSAINGAN UNTUK PASANGAN (‘Competition for a mate’) # Berlaku pada musim mengawan, haiwan jantan dewasa akan bersaing untuk mendapatkan haiwan betina sebagai pasangan. (‘Occur in the mating season, adult male animals will compete for female animals as mating partners.’) (‘Competition for mate occurs among the same species of animals.’) # Haiwan perlu mencari pasangan untuk memastikan kemandirian spesisnya. (‘Animals need to mate to ensure the survival of their species’) # Haiwan yang kuat akan menang dan mendapat pasangan dan haiwan yang kalah perlu mencari pasangan yang lain. (‘The strong and winning animal will get a mate and the losing animal need to look for other female for a mate.’) (‘Two male cats will fight each other for a female cat to mate with.’) Dua ekor rusa jantan bergaduh bagi merebut rusa betina. (‘Male deer fighting over a female’) PERSAINGAN UNTUK WILAYAH ATAU RUANG (‘Competition for territory or space’) # Haiwan juga perlu menguasai ruang kawasan yang boleh membekalkan mereka dengan makanan, air, tempat perlindungan dan juga tempat untuk membiak. (‘Animals also need to be in control of certain territory that provides them with food, water, shelter and place for reproduce.’) (‘Territory is a living space that defend by an animals or a group of animals.’) (‘Competition for territory or space will be greater if there is limited space.’) (‘Competition occurs when an animals or a group of animals are looking for a new territory or defending their own territory.’) (‘These animals usually mark their territory in a certain way to keep other animals out of their territory.’) (‘For example, cats and dogs claim their territory by making scent marks.’) (‘A dog will attack another which enters its territory - SAME SPECIES.’) (‘Two birds are fighting over territory or space. (‘A bird and a squirrel are fighting over territory or space – DIFFERENT SPECIES’) PERSAINGAN UNTUK TEMPAT BERTEDUH (‘Competition for shelter’) # Tempat perlindungan sangat penting bagi haiwan untuk melindungi diri mereka daripada hujan, terik Matahari (cuaca) dan kedaaan yang berbahaya lebih lagi daripada pemangsa mereka. (‘Shelter is very important for animals to protect themselves from rain, the Sun (weather) and danger especially from their predator.’) # Persaingan berlaku apabila haiwan sedang mencari tempat perlindungan atau mempertahankan tempat perlindungan mereka sendiri. (‘Competition occurs when animals are looking for shelter or defending their own shelter.’) (‘In competiiton for shelter, the strong animals win and then conquer the shelter, whereas the losing animals (usually the weaker animals) need to find other shelter.’) (‘Bear compete with each other to conquer a cave for shelter – SAME SPECIES’) Serigala bersaing sesama sendiri untuk mendapatkan tempat perlindungan – SPESIS SAMA. (‘Wolves compete with each other for a shelter – SAME SPECIES’)

Roda Dan Gandar

Mesin Ringkas - RODA DAN GANDAR ('WHEEL AND AXLE')

(‘A wheel and axle is a simple machine made up of two circular objects of different sizes attached to each other. The wheel is the larger object. It turns about a smaller object or a rod called an axle.’) (‘The wheel and axle help us to carry or move heavy objects easily.’) (‘When the wheel in a wheel and axle machine is turned, so is the axle, and vice versa. For example, when you turn the handle of a screwdriver, the edge that fits into the screw head turns at the same time.’) (‘Because the wheel is larger than the axle, it always moves through a greater distance than the axle. A force applied to the wheel is multiplied when it is transferred to the axle, which travels a shorter distance than the wheel.’) (‘Some examples of the wheel and axle include a door knob, a screwdriver, a water wheel, the steering wheel of an automobile, the crank used to raise a bucket of water from a well, water tap, car wheel brace and pencil sharpener.’) (‘Examples of tools using the wheel and axle.’)

Satah Condong

Mesin Ringkas - SATAH CONDONG ('INCLINED PLANE')

(‘An inclined plane is any sloping surface. An inclined plane is a simple machine that makes it easier to move a heavy object to a higher elevation.’) (‘Many people have used an inclined plane when they tried to push a wheelbarrow up a sloping board into a truck.’) (‘The inclined plane need to be set up at an angle, other than a right angle, against a horizontal surface.’) (‘The primary advantage of using an inclined plane is that it takes less effort to push an object up an inclined plane than it does to lift the same object through the same vertical difference.’) (‘The inclined plane permits one to overcome a large resistance by applying a small force through a longer distance than the load is to be raised.’) (‘Examples of tools and conditions using the inclined plane.’)

Baji

Mesin Ringkas - BAJI ('WEDGE')

Baji adalah mesin ringkas berbentuk seperti satah condong. Baji adalah satah condong yang boleh bergerak. (‘A wedge is a simple machine shaped like an inclined plane. A wedge is an inclined plane that can be moved.’) (‘A wedge is used to separate/split two objects, or portions of objects, through the application of force.’) (‘A fairly weak force, applied to the wide end of a wedge whose narrow end is being pushed into something, will send a strong force pushing out at the sides.’) (‘A wedge can either be composed of one or two inclined planes or sloping planes, slanting side ending in a sharp edge, which separates, then cuts material apart or moves, holds and stops an object.’) (‘The narrower the wedge (or the sharper the point of a wedge), the easier it is drive it in and push things apart. But, to split something apart really wide, you have to push the wedge a long distance.’) (‘Examples of wedges with one inclined plane are door stopper, carpenter’s plane and wheel wedge; two inclined planes are knives, axes and chisels.’) (‘A wedge can also be round, example, like the tip of a nail and needle or the tines on your fork.’) (‘A shovel, spade and ice pick are three examples of wedge that can hold and move object. It's a lot easier to move an object using a wedge than if it were moved by only your hands.’) (‘The wedge that can stop an object are door stopper to stop the door and the wheel wedge to stop the wheel.’) (‘There are two major differences between inclined planes and wedges.’) Pertama, apabila digunakan, satah condong berkedudukan tetap sedangkan baji perlu digerakkan. (‘First, in use, an inclined plane remains stationary while the wedge moves. Second, the effort force is applied parallel to the slope of an inclined plane, while the effort force is applied to the vertical edge (height) of the wedge.’) Contoh alat yang menggunakan prinsip baji. (‘Examples of tools using the wedge.’)

Skru

Mesin Ringkas - SKRU (‘SCREW’)

(‘A screw can be considered to be an inclined plane that has been wrapped around some central axis.’) (‘A screw is a thread-shaped inclined plane in the round and spiralling up an upright plane, with a wedge at the tip.’) (‘The screw acts as a simple machine when an effort force is applied to the larger circumference of the screw. For example, a person might apply the effort force to a wood screw by turning a screwdriver. That force is then transmitted down the spiral part of the screw called the thread to the tip of the screw.’) (‘The movement of the screw tip into the wood is the resistance force in this machine. Each complete turn of the screwdriver produces a movement of only one thread of the screw tip into the wood. This distance between two adjacent threads is called the pitch.’) Skru mempunyai dua fungsi utama. (‘Screws can be used in two major ways. First, they can be used to hold or fix things together. Some simple examples include wood and metal screws and the screws on jars and bottles and their tops.’) (‘Secondly, screws can also be used to apply force on objects. The screws found in vices, clamps, monkey wrenches and corkscrews are some examples of this application.’) Contoh alat lain yang menggunakan konsep skru. (‘Examples of other tools using the concept ot the screw.’)

Gear

Mesin Ringkas - GEAR (‘THE GEAR’)

(‘A gear is a modification of the wheel and axle. A gear is a simple machine that consist of a wheel with teeth.’) (‘Like all simple machines, gears may change the direction in which a force is applied; or increase or reduce a force or the distance over which a force is applied.’) Dalam kata lain, gear memudahkan pergerakan. Gear membantu mengubah arah pergerakan dan kelajuan. (‘In other words, gears make movement easier. Gears help to change the direction of movements and the speed.’) (‘Gears work in teams. Two gears working together is called a gear train. The gear on the train to which the force is first applied is called the driver. The final gear on the train to which the force is first applied is called the follower gear.’) (‘Notice the arrows on top of the gears. They are showing that the gears move in different directions.’) (‘When one gear turns clockwise, the other gear turns anti – clockwise.’) (‘When the big gear turns once, the small gear turns many times. Therefore the small gear turns faster than the big gear. In any pair of gears the larger one will rotate more slowly than the smaller one, but will rotate with greater force.’) (‘Any gears between the driver and the follower gears, or we can call the third gears are called the idlers. This will make the driver gear and the follower gear turn in the same direction.’) (‘The size and number of teeth on a gear determine the kind of work it can do. A force on a large gear will cause a small gear to turn faster, but with less force. A force on a small gear will turn the large gear more slowly, but it will have a greater force. The distance between the teeth of the gear is called the "pitch".’) Contoh alat yang menggunakan gear. (‘Examples of tools using the gear.’) Gear boleh dijumpai pada basikal. (‘Gear can be found in a bicycle.’) (‘In a bicycle, the small gear is connected to the big gear by a chain.’) (’When we pedal, the big gear will turn. When the big gear turns, the chain also turns. This turns the small gear which turns the wheel of the bicycle. This make the bicycle moves forward.’) (‘The small gear turns in the same directions as the big gear.’) Pemukul telur (‘An egg beater’) Jam tangan (‘A wrist watch’)

Tuas

Mesin Ringkas - TUAS (‘LEVER’)

(‘The lever is a simple machine made with a bar free to move about a fixed point called a fulcrum. The lever consists of three parts. The fulcrum (see the triangle), load (see the rectangular shape) and a rod (see the plank).’) (‘First let's learn some terms you will need to know. A load is the thing that the lever lifts or moves. A fulcrum is the fixed point where the rod turns freely. An effort is the pushing force to make the objects (load) move.’) (‘The position of the fulcrum will determine the amount of the effort that is needed to lift an object.’) Untuk mengangkat beban yang berat, kita perlu : (‘To lift a heavy load, we must,’) (a) meletakkan fulkrum paling dekat dengan beban, (‘place the fulcrum as near as the load as possible,’) (b) daya dikenakan sejauh mungkin dari fulkrum, (‘apply the effort as far away as possible from the fulcrum,’) (c) gunakan kayu yang panjang, bukan kayu yang pendek. (‘use a long bar, not a short bar.’) (‘Fulcrum is placed near the load, less effort is needed to move the object.’) (‘The nearer the distance between the fulcrum and the load, the lesser the effort needed to move the object.’) (‘Fulcrum is placed far away from the load, more effort is needed to move the object.’) (‘The further the distance between the fulcrum and the load, the more the effort needed to move the object.’) Kesimpulan (‘Conclusion’): Semakin (berkurang / dekat ; bertambah / jauh) jarak fulkrum dengan beban, semakin (mudah ; susah) kerja yang dilakukan. (‘The (nearer ; further) the distance between the fulcrum and the load, the (easier ; harder) the work is.‘) Tuas digunakan, membolehkan daya yang besar pada jarak yang kecil pada satu hujung digerakkan oleh daya yang kecil pada jarak yang besar pada satu hujung yang satu lagi. (‘Levers can be used to exert a large force over a small distance at one end by exerting only a small force over a greater distance at the other.’) (‘Levers are simple machines used to lift weights or loads. The lever makes our work easier. Levers help us to carry or move heavy objects easily. Levers also help us to do the following work more easily.’) (a) Mengangkat objek (‘Lifting an object’), (b) Membuka penutup tin atau botol (‘Opening the lid of a can or bottle’), (c) Menarik keluar paku (‘Pulling out nails’). (‘Levers are classified into three classes. The First Class Lever, Second Class Lever and the Third Class lever. The only difference between them is between the fulcrum, effort and load, which one is located in the middle of the system.’) Tuas Kelas Pertama (‘First Class Levers’) Pada tuas kelas pertama fulkrum berada di tengah – tengah. (‘In the First Class lever the fulcrum is located in the middle. The load is on one end and the force is on the other.’) (‘An example of this type of lever is a see-saw. The load is the person that goes up, and the effort applied is the weight of the person that goes down. The fulcrum is in the centre in between them.’) (‘Notice that a claw hammer, when used to remove nails, is a lever. Also, when we use a spoon to open the lid of a can container.’) (‘The other examples are the scissors, pliers and crowbar.’) (‘Second Class Lever the fulcrum is on the end, the resistance force, the load, is in the middle, and the effort is at the other end.’) (‘An example of a Second Class Lever is a wheelbarrow.’) (‘The other examples are bottle opener, paper cutter and nutcracker.’) (‘The Third Class Lever, fulcrum is on the end of one side, the effort force is in the middle, and the resistance force, the load, is at the other end.’) (’An example the Third Class Lever is a fishing rod. The load is the fish; the handle end is the fulcrum and the effort is applied in the middle.’) (‘The other examples are ice tongs, broom, arm and baseball bat.’) Kita ingat kembali. (‘We try to remember. First class lever in the middle is the fulcrum, second class lever in the middle is the load and third class lever in the middle is the effort. Fulcrum, Load, Effort, we can use acronym F L E to remember.’)
